Chicken potalam | Chicken parcels







Preparation time : 10 minutes
Cooking time : 30 minutes 
Makes : 5 parcels 


Ingredients : ( 1 cup = 240 ml )

For stuffing :
  • Boneless chicken - 400 grams
  • Oil - 2 tbsp 
  • Onion - 2, medium sized, sliced
  • Ginger garlic paste - 1 tsp
  • Tomato - 1/4 cup, chopped 
  • Red chilli powder - 1 tsp
  • Coriander powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Garam masala - 1/4 tsp
  • Pepper powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
  • Salt - to taste
  • Coriander leaves - few
For crepes / Dosa :
  • All purpose flour / Maida - 1 and 1/2 cups
  • Salt to taste
  • Milk - 2 and 1/2 cups or as needed
  • Oil - for brushing
For parcels/potalam :
  • Eggs - 2 
  • Salt - to taste
  • Pepper powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Oil - for shallow frying 

Method :
  1. Boil and shred the chicken pieces.
  2. Heat oil in a pan, add sliced onion, saute till its soft and translucent.
  3. Then add ginger garlic paste.
  4. Add tomato, cook till its soft and mushy.
  5. Add shredded chicken, chilli powder, coriander powder, pepper powder, garam masala, turmeric powder and salt.
  6. Mix well and cook for 5 minutes on low flame.
  7. Sprinkle coriander leaves and keep aside.
  8. Take all purpose flour / maida and salt.
  9. Pour milk and whisk well. Make as thin and runny batter.
  10. Heat a tawa/pan, make as thin dosa / crepes.
  11. Brush slight oil and cook on low flame till its done. Do not flip it.
  12. Transfer to a plate and keep aside. Continue with the remaining batter.
  13. Take one crepe, place some stuffing in the center.
  14. Fold the opposite sides, fold again and form as parcel. And continue with all.
  15. Take eggs, salt and pepper powder. Whisk well.
  16. Take one parcel dip in eggs and coat well.
  17. Gently drop in hot oil. Shallow fry till its slight golden brown in colour.
  18. Fry on both sides. Drain from oil. 
  19. Serve hot.

Boil and shred the chicken pieces

Add tomato, cook till its soft and mushy

Add shredded chicken 

Add chilli powder, coriander powder, pepper powder,
 garam masala, turmeric powder and salt

Mix well and cook for 5 minutes on low flame 

Sprinkle coriander leaves and keep aside 

Take all purpose flour/maida and salt 

Pour milk and whisk well 

Make as thin and runny batter 

Heat a tawa/pan, make as thin dosa/crepes

Brush slight oil and cook on low flame till its done.
Do not flip it 

Transfer to a plate and keep aside. Continue with the remaining batter

Take one crepe, place some stuffing in the center

Fold the opposite sides

Fold again and form as parcel

Continue with all 

Take eggs, salt and pepper powder 

Whisk well 

Take one parcel dip in eggs 

Coat well 

Gently drop in hot oil 

Fry till its slight golden brown in colour 

Fry on both sides. Drain from oil

Serve hot
